Former Indian captains Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev have joined several international cricket legends in a humanitarian appeal regarding the prison conditions of former Pakistan prime minister and ex‑cricketer Imran Khan. The group, which includes past captains from Australia, England, West Indies and New Zealand, expressed concern about reports related to Khan’s health, especially issues affecting his eyesight while in custody since August 2023.

In a joint petition, the players stated that sporting rivalries end on the field and that respect for a former international sports icon and national leader should remain. They urged authorities in Pakistan to ensure proper medical care, dignified treatment and fair legal access for Khan. Medical officials recently reported some improvement in his condition after treatment, though concerns remain.

Imran Khan, regarded as one of cricket’s greatest all‑rounders, represented Pakistan from 1971 to 1992 and led the team to its only ODI World Cup victory in 1992. His family has said the immediate priority is his health, while also seeking due legal process and a fair trial.
